Album 4: My Family

Of course, my family is the most important part of my life. Here I am with my wife Susan at Manor Park in Larchmont, New York. We met at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, when we were working on our master's degrees in reading education.

And here we are more recently:

In 1985 Susan gave birth to our first set of twins: Anna and Rachel. Although it looks like we may have dressed them alike, we usually did not. We have tried to respect their individual differences.

In 1990 Susan gave birth to our second set of twins: David and Chloe. Sometimes people asked if they were identical. We were very polite when we told them "no." (HINT: how could a boy and girl twin ever be identical?) For a long time Chloe wanted to be a princess and David wanted to be a knight. Now that they have grown up, they have other interests (though it would have been nice to visit their castle).

My first three pets: Cheetah, my very first dog. She lived with me in West Virginia when I was little. Then she bit me, and my parents gave her away. Whiskers, my only cat, posing with my little brother Billy. When I was eight, she had an encounter with a street cleaner...and lost. Finally, Tiny Tim, our Chihuahua/Manchester mix. He liked to sit on the back of the couch and look out the front window, guarding the house.

One very important family member was Katie, our West Highland White Terrier. She inspired Sparky in The Very Real Ghost Book of Christina Rose. She was part of our family from 1980 to 1991.

Our most recent family member was Bobby, our Norfolk Terrier. He may not look like it, but he was a 'ratter' at heart, though he didn't get the opportunity very often. He also liked to chase lizards...the bigger, the better. He even caught a few. He lived to be fourteen and a half.

He was the best dog ever!
