My Biography

Here are photos from my elementary school years:

3My kindergarten class made a special trip on the B&O Railroad one day. I don't remember where we went, but I do know that it was my first train ride. Five years later, the B&O moved out of town.

I am the young man in the front row wearing the double-breasted camel coat.

4This is my picture in first or second grade at Steenrod Elementary School in Wheeling, West Virginia. Is that an angelic or a devilish look on my face? I'm not quite sure myself.

3 I was quiet and shy at school. Unlike home, where I enjoyed reading to myself, I didn't like to read at school because all of the reading there was out loud (until 3rd grade). I was too embarrassed to read out loud and do a good job. So I tried to make mistakes, hoping that the teacher would get impatient with me and move on to the next person. It was only when I was allowed to read silently (in third grade) that I enjoyed myself at school.

4In third grade, I began reading mysteries like the Hardy Boys books, but I supplemented my reading with comic books. Here I am in fifth grade with a selection of my most recent 10 cent comic book purchases.
