El Salvador

This book examines the land and the people of El Salvador, one of the top ten countries of recent immigrants to the United States. A survey of Salvadoran history is also presented, from its inception as Cuscatlán to its battle for independence to its turbulent history as a coffee republic. Le Matanza, the Soccer War with Honduras, and the Civil War are included. The book also highlights the unique contributions to American life that El Salvadorans have made and the uncertain future they face until their immigration status is clarified by the government.
