Ghost Stories          Teachers Guide

Reproduce The Ghost IQ Test (p. 5) and ask students to test their knowledge. Then read the rest of Chapter 1 which clears up misconceptions about ghosts (and which also explains the answers to the quiz). Children will probably be surprised that someone can research the subject of ghosts. Point out the length bibliography (pp. 132-134). Read Chapter 6 which describes some research on the subject and outlines ten suggestions for finding a ghost.

Writing/research activities: Have a students dress up in an unusual costume (with lots of detail and props) and, unannounced, walk into the classroom, attract attention for perhaps ten seconds, and then leave. Ask students to describe what they have seen, perhaps using the Ghost Report form (pp. 95-96). This makes a perfect Halloween activity.
