Source Accounts of the Mexican-American War
presents personal accounts of
American men and women in battle and on the homefront. It also includes
songs, speeches, poetry, newspaper accounts, and photographs that
reflect the larger culture of the time. From the Battle of Palo Alto to
the Battle of Chapultepec, the book presents the war in personal detail,
as recorded by soldiers and civilians. A special chapter focuses on the
San Patricio Battalion, composed primarily of Irish soldiers who left
the American army to fight for the Mexican cause. As a result of the
war, the United States gained almost all of the land that makes up the
present-day American Southwest.
The book also presents
information students need to learn to write a report on this subject.
