The Internet has many websites devoted to the study of Pompeii and ancient Rome. Here are some websites you might wish to consult for further information (all links open in a new window): 

Pompeii Archaeological Site provides links to many aspects of Pompeii, including information on exhibits that are held worldwide

Pompeii: The Last Day is the website of the BBC television program. The US Discovery Channel also aired the program and maintains a similar website.

Pompeii Plaster Casts is a multi-page examination of the plaster casts of human remains found at Pompeii

 

Mt. Vesuvius:

Vesuvius Website is an excellent course of information about Vesuvius and its history

Vesuvius (by Volcano World) is a project of the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium and includes information on many other volcanoes

History of Pompeii

A number of historical documents can be found at the Plaster Casts of Pompeii, including Younger Pliny's two letters about the eruption (the only written eyewitness account to the eruption in AD 79), Seneca’s Account of the AD 62 earthquake, and a famous short story about Pompeii (Arria Marcella: A Souvenir of Pompeii by Théophile Gautier )

Research on Pompeii: 

Pompeian Households includes "information on 30 Pompeian houses and their contents" including many photographs

The Pompeiana website provides links to many Pompeii research projects.

Pompeii Archaeological Research Project: Porta Stabia gives information about a Stanford University project.

The Pompeii Forum Project by the University of Virginia includes many archival photos of Pompeii. Another part of the project,  Ancient Reconstruction of the Pompeii Forum presents a comprehensive look at the work done by the University of Virginia team. The website includes a page on Volcanic Phenomena at Pompeii which describes exactly what happened in very scientific terms.

In Vesuvius' Shadow (from Archaeology Magazine) describes (and shows) the work of Anglo-American Project at Pompeii. The homepage of the project can be found here.

Pompeii: Unraveling Ancient Mysteries (by Harcourt School Publishers) accompanies a Harcourt reading program but provides a wealth of material for students interested in Pompeii and other nearby sites
