I had a great time when I visited
you recently.
I
told you how I got my start as a writer--back in the fifth grade writing about
space aliens. I talked about the two kinds of books that I write: fiction and
nonfiction. I showed you a mummy photo from Bodies from the Bog
and read a mummy story from How
to Make a Mummy Talk. In one session I told you my experience at the
Cleveland Museum of Natural History, where I had the chance to touch a mummy's
head. If you want to see the photo of that mummy (whose name is Senbi the
Scribe), click here.
It's not too gross and gory, I promise, but make sure you scroll to the bottom
of the linked page because that's where you'll find all of the photos.
I
spoke to you about my novels 3 NBs of Julian
Drew (a mysterious novel that takes place in Tempe, Arizona--your
hometown!) and The Very Real Ghost Book of Christina
Rose. I read you a ghost story from Christina Rose. If you want to read
more ghost stories, follow this link to
some stories from Christina Rose and other ghost books that I have written. And
don't forget to visit The Story Museum which
is full of all kinds of stories.
Between
sessions, I had lunch with some of your teachers and your principal, Mr.
Bejarano.
We
had a chance to talk about lots of things. And I signed the bulletin board where
copies of my book jackets were posted. Afterwards, I autographed books and got
to meet many of you personally. I was really impressed with you and your school
and hope you got some ideas to write your own stories. I was especially pleased
to meet the members of the eighth grade book club--and the winner of the writing
contest!
I want to thank Roseann Wagner and
David Vasquez for all their help in arranging the day and making it run so
smoothly!
