Burleson Intermediate School

Burleson, Texas

Hello Burleson!

I spent two wonderful days at your school talking to your teams about Egyptian mummies and bog bodies. I want to thank Mrs. Carson and Mr. Uttley for their warm welcome to B.I.S. Of course, a Texas-sized thanks go to Mrs. Jones and Rapunzel--er, I mean, Mrs. Pilgrim, who helped make this a special visit.

Now, here are some pictures of my visit. (Click on the thumbnail to see the larger view.)

In a number of presentations, I showed a slide of Lindow Man, a bog body now on exhibit in the British Museum in London. He looked freshly-discovered in the slide.

After each presentation, I answered as many of your questions as I could. You asked so many good questions, too--not only about mummies and bog bodies but about writing and research.

For lunch on my first day, I had some Texas barbeque with a group of students. I met Laura S., Ashley J., Sara S., Brandon L., Kamella W., Johnnie P., Natasha M., Greg F., Jennifer P., Samantha V., Jarrett F., Chris F., and Spencer B.--and Mr. Hoaldridge from the Administrative Offices. We all had a lot of fun.

Here you are on the library's "back porch":

Getting to spend some time with you was a highlight of the lunch. But the second highlight of the lunch was a feat of derring-do performed by Mrs. Pilgrim. An avowed vegetarian with a hankering for an occasional barbeque, she was captured in a photo eating barbequed beef.

Thank you all for an unforgettable visit!
