Making El Chikkén

Fourth Avenue Junior High School

Yuma, Arizona

Miss Garrett, science and archeology teacher at the Fourth Avenue Junior High School recently made a mummy of the Pharaoh El Chikkén. In other words, she mummified a chicken using the Egyptian method--with a little help from her students and other teachers.

Here come the mummymakers carrying the Pharaoh's lifeless body on the stretcher.

The organs are removed (note the brainhook-like tool--unfortunately, El Chikkén had no brain (his head had mysteriously disappeared from the Perdue package!).

The mummymakers give their blessing before entombing El Chikkén. Notice the canopic jars on the tray (are there only three?).

Thank you, Maureen Garrett, for sharing this special day. Hope this gives everyone some ideas for creating a memorable Mummy Day in Ancient Egypt!

If you have any Egyptian mummy or world mummy projects to share on my website, please send them to me here.
