School Visits

Charlotte Country Day School,

Middle School Campus

Charlotte, North Carolina

When I visited you, I spoke to the 5th and 6th grade about my writing and research...especially related to my book Bodies from the Ice: Melting Glaciers and the Recovery of the Past. A few weeks before my visit, you had sent me letters, filled with questions about my book and the research I had done. I read all of them and tried to answer your questions in my presentation.

When I spoke to the 7th and 8th grades, I talked about how I research and write nonfiction. I gave examples from my three "bodies" books:  Bodies from the IceBodies from the Ash, and Bodies from the Bog.

Speaking to the 5th and 6th grade about Bodies from the the Ash

Speaking to the 5th and 6th grade about Lindow Man, a 2000-year-old bog body found in northern England

After my presentations, I held a workshop for teachers on motivating children to read nonfiction. Then I met with some excellent student writers for a question and answer session about writing and research.

The end of a great visit!

I'd like to thank librarian Megan Fink of the CCDS Middle School for making my visit possible and making the day so memorable.
