Hello, Grades 6-8!
As I walked into your
beautiful school building, I
was greeted by a video display of my books and a warm welcome to your
guest author. I gave a presentation to the entire school in which I
spoke about how I grew up to be a writer and how I research my books.
I talked to Grades 7 and
8 about my book, Bodies from the Ice:
Melting Glaciers and the Recovery of the Past. I explained
that glaciers are dangerous to travelers and to future generations on
Earth. I also introduced you to a number of different people who have
been found at the edges of melting glaciers. Although they are
important archaeological and historical discoveries, there is a high
price involved: if glaciers melt completely, our drinking water will
be severely reduced.
I spoke to Grade 6 about my research on
Ötzi, the Iceman from the Alps. I explained how he was discovered and
described the many mistakes that the recovery team made in releasing
him from the ice (remember the scratch of the car key?).
Thank you for being
such great, inquisitive students and asking so many good questions. Your
super librarian, Mrs. Schreier, planned my two day visit and made sure
that it ran smoothly. I want to thank her for all of her hard
work!
